Seen by Rainer whilst out on location – www.SardineRunPE.co.za
Pilot Whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus) are able to dive down and hunt for squid at about 1.000 meters depth, they can get at least 45 years old and are common in most moderate waters around the globe as well in South Africa. Here in Tenerife is a resident pod of about 450 members just hunting in the channel between Tenerife and La Gomera just about 3 miles off the harbor it is already more than a 1.000 meters deep and food and currents allow survival without leaving this area.
Loads of tourists experience this first had and guarantees for whale sightings at different companies are standard, 365 days a year whale watching is possible and up to 1.000.000 tourist get transported out on different vessels throughout the year to see the whales. Amazing to see the growing interest in the marine environment and the connected concern about it!
Research, Education and Protection though Photography is what we at expert-tours.com try to do for years and I am seriously impressed on how Tenerife and its legislation in Madrid is handling matters here in favor of the whales, and still supporting small business.
Our special permits to document and correspond about this matter on public platforms and spread the need of protection though our presentation this evening at the Arona Son Atlantico festival together with Sergio and Claudia makes Silke and I happy.
Images of the last encounters today show the Pilot Whales in their natural environment, that’s were these marine cetaceans belong! Family pods with their youg couriously come and have a look at us inside the Atlantic Ocean.
